Joint
Admissions agreement (JAA) The Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education passed a new Joint Admissions Agreement (JAA) among CCRI, RIC, and URI on August 19, 2003. This agreement will take effect for students in the fall of 2004.
The JAA inaugurates improved opportunities for students to attend CCRI and then transition to either RIC or URI to complete a bachelor’s degree. Through the JAA, students follow a Transition Plan, which guides them to graduation from CCRI with the associate’s degree and a package of sixty credits that will be applicable to the bachelor’s degree. Currently, 20 majors have approved JAA Transition Plans at RIC and 20 at URI, with additional plans under consideration.
Students also will receive other benefits by participating in the JAA, such as early access to advisors at RIC or URI, a release from paying the application fee to RIC or URI, a special orientation, and completion of most general education credits while attending CCRI. In addition, JAA students will register for courses with other students having the same number of credits rather than during a transfer registration period.
To transition successfully to RIC or URI, JAA students must choose one of the designated majors, select the courses listed in one of the JAA Transition Plans, earn a cumulative GPA of 2.4, consult with an advisor every semester, and meet all of the requirements stipulated for admission to a specified major.
