PROGRAM TRANSFER PLANS
What is a program transfer plan?
A program transfer plan is a road map for students at the Community
College of Rhode Island (CCRI) who complete associates degrees and transfer
to bachelor’s degree programs either at the University of Rhode Island
(URI) or Rhode Island College (RIC). Several academic departments have
approved these program transfer plans.
Why should students participate in a program
transfer plan?
Program transfer plans provide students with a "seamless" path to
bachelor’s degree programs. By taking the sequence of courses listed in
the program transfer plan students can, in most cases, complete the associates
degree, fulfill most of the general education requirements at URI or RIC
and in many cases transfer courses which count toward the major. Beginning
at CCRI is an especially affordable and convenient way for students to
get started on earning a college degree.
What are the requirements?
Students must complete the associates degree at CCRI within the
effective dates taking the courses listed for the program transfer plan.
In addition, students are required to make contact with an advisor at URI
or RIC and meet additional departmental requirements listed, such as minimum
G.P.A.
Academic program transfers are effective for a period of five years
to accommodate students who may be enrolled in a program part-time. Students
are governed by the requirements in effect beginning the year of enrollment
in the program. These requirements will remain in effect for a period of
five years regardless of changes to individual course equivalencies.
What if students change their minds?
Students are not obligated to transfer to URI or RIC. If they should
decide to transfer to another institution, the program transfer plan is
designed to allow many options for transferring to another institution
or for joining the workforce upon completion of the program.
What if a student does not wish to participate?
Under Board of Governors policy, students are guaranteed admission
to Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island if they complete
an associates degree program at the Community College and maintain at least
a 2.4 G.P.A. By completing a program transfer plan students maximize the
number of courses that will transfer for general education and major credit
and minimize the number of courses needed to complete the bachelor’s degree.
How do students get started?
Before registering for courses, students interested in a program
transfer plan should simply drop by or call the academic advising and counseling
office at any of the three CCRI campuses to make an appointment (Lincoln:
333-7160,
Providence: 455-6020 and Warwick:
825-2301). An academic advisor will help students register for the right
courses and help make connections with helpful people at URI or RIC. The
key to successful transfer is early and frequent contact with an academic
advisor.
