
Steve Maurano was appointed Associate Commissioner of External Affairs in November 2006. He is responsible for developing and implementing public relations strategies, maintaining system relations with the greater Rhode Island community, and communicating with government by monitoring and advocating for legislation that may affect public higher education in the state.
Prior to his appointment, Maurano worked for the Providence based public relations firm Duffy & Shanley for 22 years, and had been partner since 2000. He is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and previously served as president of the Society’s Southeastern New England Chapter. Throughout his extensive career in public relations and public affairs, Maurano has also gained experience as an educator. He has taught public relations courses at Providence College since 2000 and earlier at Rhode Island College in the late 1980s.
Maurano holds a bachelor’s degree from Providence College and a master’s in public relations from Boston University. He is a native of Rhode Island and currently resides in Cranston.
