ACCOUNTING

Transferring to RIC:

• Students transferring from CCRI to RIC with an Associates Degree in Business Administration, Accounting concentration, and a GPA of 2.4 or higher will automatically be accepted as accounting majors and will receive credit for ACCT 201 and ACCT 202. See Section 3 for a suggested program transfer plan.

• CCRI students transferring to RIC without an Associates Degree in Business Administration, Accounting concentration, will be subject to the policies of RIC regarding admission and transfer of credits (including proficiency examinations).

CCRI students planning to transfer to the URI College of Business Administration should major in General Studies or Liberal Arts. The URI College of Business Administration only accepts transfer students at the junior level. CCRI students must have 60 credits, a GPA of at least 2.50 and have completed the following courses: MATH 1670, MATH 1680, ACCT 1010, ACCT 1020 (or ACCT 1110 and ACCT 1120), ECON 2010, ECON 2020, MATH 1550, MATH 1560, COMI 1100 and ENGL 1410. All other ACCT and BUSN courses are transferable as free electives until a waiver exam is completed at URI. For exam details, contact Jane M. Stich, Assistant Dean, URI College of Business Administration (874-2337). Students not meeting all these requirements may be admitted to University College.

ART

• URI encourages all transfer students who wish to transfer program credit to either submit a portfolio or to register for ART 002 Sophomore Review. The purpose of the portfolio review is to advise students on course selection and career direction; portfolio reviews are not used in admission decisions.

• The URI College of Engineering does not accept studio courses for general education credit.

• RIC requires all students who wish to transfer program credit to have a portfolio review. This review will determine whether a student will receive credit for an equivalent course at RIC (see equivalencies below) or if the student will receive elective credit. The portfolio review is not used for admission consideration. The portfolio review is not required for ART 201 or for Art History courses.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION / MANAGEMENT

CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY

• Students who complete the A.A.S. program in Chemical Technology at CCRI will receive credit for all courses listed for URI or for RIC. Credit will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis for students who do not complete the A.A.S. program in Chemical Technology.

• Vocational/technical occupational courses shall be considered for transfer on an individual basis. The receiving institution may accept part or all of these courses as being applicable to the satisfaction of degree requirements.

CHEMISTRY / PHYSICAL SCIENCES

• To enroll in the B. S. Chemistry curriculum at URI with junior status, you are required to have passed MATH 1910, 1920 & 2910, PHYS 2310 & 2320 and CHEM 2270, 2271, 2280 & 2281.

• Students wishing to pursue the baccalaureate program in chemistry at RIC should refer to Section 3 for a suggested transfer plan.

CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENCE

• Vocational/technical occupational courses shall be considered for transfer on an individual basis. The receiving institution may accept part or all of these courses as being applicable to the satisfaction of degree requirements.

COMPUTER STUDIES

• CCRI students with an Associate Degree in Computer Science intending to transfer to RIC should consider either a major in Computer Science (CSCI) or in Computer Information Systems (CIS). Those interested in a CSCI major will receive credit for courses as indicated below. CCRI students with an Associate Degree in Computer Science and a GPA of 2.4 or more will automatically be accepted as a CIS major and will receive credit for CIS 352 Management Information Systems and CIS 353 Systems Analysis and Design. CCRI students without an Associate Degree in Computer Science will receive credit for CIS 352 Management Information Systems only.

• Languages used to implement the programming concepts may differ between the institutions. Students transferring from one institution to another must be ready to change computer languages.

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION

Credit for cooperative education will transfer as course credit in the student's major unless earned in a program which has no equivalent at the receiving institution, in which case, free elective credit will be granted.
 

DENTAL HEALTH

• To gain entrance into the baccalaureate degree program for Dental Hygiene at URI, students transferring from CCRI must have earned an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene, have successfully completed the National and Northeast Regional Board Dental Hygiene examinations, and have been accepted by the URI Admissions Office. See Dental Hygiene Program-to-Program Agreements in Section 4.

ENGINEERING

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE

• The public institutions of higher education in Rhode Island offer a variety of courses and support services for students for whom English is a second language (ESL). Most of the courses provide college-level credit and are in many instances transferable. Students should note that the equivalencies listed may be subject to a competency examination at the receiving institution. Competency examinations are designed to determine the appropriate level of coursework for students continuing in ESL courses.

HONORS PROGRAM

Honors Programs exist at all three institutions to encourage academically talented students to engage in special learning opportunities, thus enhancing their intellectual growth.  These honors programs share a commitment to acaddemic excellence and student access. Students transferring to URI from CCRI who have completed honors courses are encouraged to apply to the URI Honors Program.  Admission to URI Honors Program courses requires a minimum 3.2 GPA.  On a case by case basis, CCRI honors projects may qualify to satisfy the "3 credit, 100 leve" portion of the URI Honors Program requirements.  Interested students should submit a portfolio of their CCRI honors projects together with their CCRI transcript to the URI Honors Director. Students transferring to RIC from CCRI who have completed honors courses at CCRI are encouraged to apply to the RIC Transfer Honors Program. Admission to the RIC Transfer Honors Program normally requires a minimum 3.5 GPA. Students will be accepted to the RIC Transfer Honors Program on a case by case basis. Normally they will take their General Education Core 3 and Core 4 requirements in honors sections; will take the Honors 350 colloquium in the junior year; and will complete departmental honors projects in the senior year."

HUMAN SERVICES / EDUCATION / HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

• Students majoring in Human Services at CCRI are automatically accepted into the Human Development, Family Studies Department (Human Services and Early Childhood Education programs) at URI if they have a minimum GPA of 2.0 and have taken the following courses: HMNS 2100 (or PSYC 2030), PSYC 2010, SOCS 1010 (or other 100- or 200-level sociology course), and MATH 1430. Students who plan to qualify for Early Childhood Education certification should note that there is a minimum required GPA of 2.5. Students interested in pursuing a baccalaureate degree in Human Development and Family Studies: Early Childhood Education should refer to Section 3 for suggested program transfer plans.
