Rhode Island Women in Higher Education (RIWHE) was organized officially
at its first meeting on April 25, 2003. For a detailed description of the
organization, please see the RIWHE Operating
Guidelines. Dr. Nancy Carriuolo, associate commissioner for academic
and student affairs at the RI Office of Higher Education, is the first state
coordinator.
Women leaders in higher education in the state are encouraged to join RIWHE by contacting Deanna Velletri at deanna@etal.uri.edu. Annual dues will not be collected; however, yearly events may require one-time fees.
Benefits of membership
Listserv. RIWHE has begun a listserv to keep women in higher education
in Rhode Island connected. Please contact Deanna
Velletri to be added to the listserv.
Events. RIWHE will be hosting one event per year to bring RI women
in higher education together. Please visit this site periodically to learn
more about events. In addition, regional events and other items of interest
will be announced on this site.
Networking. Make connections with other female leaders in the state. The current membership includes women from all areas of higher education, such as academic, student and financial affairs.

RIWHE Fourth Annual Conference
Rhode Island's fourth annual conference of Rhode Island Women in Higher Education (RIWHE) will be held at Salve Regina University from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2006.
RIWHE Third Annual Spring Conference, 2005
Rhode Island's third annual spring RIWHE conference was held on Friday, April 22, 2005, at Salve Regina University's Ochre Court. Arlene Violet, RIWHE's 2005 honorary member, will be the keynote speaker. For more information download the complete program and registration form.

RIWHE
Organizational Meeting, 2003
The RI Chapter held an invitational, organizational meeting on April
25, 2003, at Salve Regina University in Newport. A luncheon was followed
by a keynote regarding history and future of the ACE (American Council
on Education) Network and the Office of Women in Higher Education. After
table-top sessions facilitated by women leaders from RI higher education
institutions, the afternoon concluded with a business meeting to organize
a state chapter of ACE Network.

RIWHE 2nd Annual Conference, 2004
Rhode Island's second annual RIWHE conference was held on April 30, 2004,
at RHode Island College. The event began with a luncheon and book signing
by Dr. Regina Barreca, the featured speaker who gave a humorous presentiation
on women and success. Rhode Island's First Lady Suzanne Carcieri and
Judge O. Rogeriee Thompson were inducted as honorary members of RIWHE,
and Commissioner Jack Warner presented on leadership for women in higher
education. Members got to participate in a problem-solving exercise before
concluding the event with a brief business meeting.

The ACE Network is a program of the American Council on Education's
Office of Women in Higher Education. The national network connects women
throughout the country to advance the OWHE's agenda of identifying women
leaders in higher education, developing the leadership skills of women in
higher education, encouraging women leaders to make full use of their abilities,
advancing women into senior-level positions, linking women leaders at all
levels to one another, and supporting the retention of women in higher education.
